Sao Paulo Branch, Brazil / Mar 2003
Contributor: Branch Master Masao Hama |
At this time in the state of Sao Paulo, two branches are active, both in the city limits of Sao Paulo.
Brazil is said to be a country of immigrants, and the country is composed of people of African heritage, European heritage, and Asian heritage.
Here in Sao Paulo, we have the adult-focused Sao Paulo Branch and the Liberdade SP Branch that became independent as a youth-focused branch.
They are run so that all kenshi can always practice at either one, and they spur each other through friendly competition. The Sao Paulo branch was established ten years ago by overseas Japanese posted to the city, but the branch has now matured to the point where Brazilian kenshi have founded a new branch themselves.
For annual activities, on Kaiso Day in May the club donates money to an orphanage and cleans in and outside the dojo; In October at the Kagawa Prefecture People's Center's Kompira Festival, we perform embu demonstrations; and in December we put on a juhasco party (barbecue).
Occasionally, kenshi from European or American branches visit Sao Paulo for vacation or on business and join in our practice.
To everyone at WSKO branches, let's practice together. Our door is always open.
