Japan Friends' Day
On October 10, 2004, Japan Friends' Day was held in Gold Coast. It is an annual event organized by the Japanese society of Gold Coast for friendship exchange. This year's event site was the garden of the city hall, in other words, on an outdoor stage.
From 10 in the morning until 4 in the evening, various Japanese and other Asian cultures were presented; food stalls of okonomiyaki, shaved ice, and a lot more are crowded by families. On the open stage, groups of taisho koto (harp), koto (harp), karaoke, Japanese taiko (dram) team from Wakayama, presented their musical performance. Next to the stage, sado (Japanese tea ceremony) was performed all day, serving tea in the traditional way.
There was a special site for martial arts demonstration+ martial arts group such as Shorinji Kempo, katete, Wing Chun, Capoeira, and general fighting arts were given 30 minutes each for their performance, which attracted audience.
The Shorinji Kempo Gold Coast Branch participated in this demonstration with all the kenshi of the branch including children and presented embu freely. The event had 10,000 visitors this year.
