German Federation / Jan 2005
from Japanese monthly magazine "Kaiho ShorinjiKempo" February 2005 issue |
Japanese Monthly Magazine "Kaiho ShorinjiKempo" presents one kenshi from WSKO's national federations. This article first appeared in its February 2005 issue.
1) Country: Germany
2) Name: Family name: Seitz, First name: Edwin
3) Age: I am born on Dec 27 in the year 1970.
4) Sex: Male
5) Occupation: I made a three year apprenticeship as a car mechanic. Since 1995 I am working 3 shifts in the heat treatment department of a bolt manufacturer.
6) Branch: I am practising on the countryside in the Heidenberg Branch which is located in the German state of Bavaria. The next big city is Nuremberg which is about 14 miles away.
7) Personal history in Shorinji Kempo: The branch was established in 1998. Soon after it's opening I started as the first student of my Branch Master Douglas Beard. In the year 2001 I attended the International Study Session in Paris. This event made a big impression on me and motivated me a lot. In the last few months I trained sometimes the children classes or assisted my branch master.
8) Rank: On April 5 2003 I passed the sho dan grading and my current rank is Jun Kenshi.
9) How many times a week do you practise? : Due to my 3 shift system I am able to attend the training classes when I am on early shift or night shift. Unfortunately I cannot practise during late shifts. The training classes are on Wednesday evening and Thursday evening and last for two hours each time.
10) Why did you start practising Shorinji Kempo?: Before I started with Shorinji Kempo I was impressed from the throws in Aikido but never actively practised any martial arts. Then one day I read an article in the newspaper about Shorinji Kempo. Soon afterwards I went to the Heidenberg Branch and liked the combination of throws and pins (juho) with kicks and punches (goho). So I started straight away with practising Shorinji Kempo.
11) Why are you attracted to Shorinji Kempo?: Still I am fascinated of the complex system of techniques and teaching. You can always improve, reach a deeper understanding and do better.
12) What was the difficulty you have had in practising Shorinji Kempo?: To learn sitting properly in seiza and anza.
13) Your dream?: Happiness and good health for all people.
14) What are you proud of your country?: You can say what you think and go where you want to. This is unfortunately still not everywhere on earth the case.
15) What do you want to appeal to Japanese Kenshi?: In the Franconia region we have excellent dishes (for example the Franconian bear or Nuremberger sausages). In December our Christmas Markets in Rothenburg ob der Tauber or Nuremberg are very nice and always worth a visit.
