Reports from WSKO Branches
Caltech Branch, USA / Mar 2003
Contributor: Branch Master Meyer Pesenson

The California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is located in Pasadena, California, very close to Los Angeles.

Caltech Branch was established in 1993 by Dana Dabiri and since then has been coached by Uekuma sensei. Dana Dabiri remained Branch Master until he left California in 2001. Our Branch has close ties with both the Los Angeles (LA) Branch, led by Yamamori sensei, and the South Bay Branch, led by Uekuma sensei.

Most of the kenshi are students or staff at Caltech. There are three practices a week at Caltech. Many kenshi also practice with the South Bay Branch.

Annual events include public demonstrations together with the Los Angeles and South Bay Branches during Nissei week and New Year celebration (both are held in Little Tokyo, downtown LA), Setsubun Matsuri at the Reyukai center in Gardena and Sakura Matsuri in Pasadena.
Besides demonstrations, kenshi get together for New Year celebration, birthdays and other important dates.

In 2002 the Caltech and South Bay Branches hosted the North America Study Session.
