Reports from WSKO Branches
Colegio Militar Branch, Brazil / Apr 2003
Contributor: Branch Master Evandro Schuster

On March 22, it was celebrated the 91 st Anniversary of Colegio Militar de Porto Alegre. After the main formation of the whole students regiment there was Martial Arts presentations. Five Martial Arts were presented to the public, our Shorinji Kempo, Capoeira, Tae Kwon Do, Krav Maga and JuDo. Like always, we did our best to exalt the name of our Shorinji Kempo. And we think the public was impressed with our Embus. In each Nage or Katame techniques we heard many "ooh" and "wow"s from the people around us. Also the Commanders came to us after the presentation and expressed their admiration to our group.

Here I'll introduce a brief history from Colegio Militar:
Their premises are not only a historical heritage of the city of Porto Alegre, but of the whole country as well, for in its classrooms many people that had an important role in our history graduated.

The first institution was "Escola Militar da Provincia do RS," in 1883, 120 years ago. In 1913, it was established as Colegio Militar de Porto Alegre.

Among the great leaders that studied at Colegio Militar, we can name five former Presidents: Humberto de Alencar Castelo Branco, Arthur da Costa e Silva, Emilio Garrastazu Medici, Ernesto Geisel and Joao Batista Figueiredo. It had also Mario Quintana as a student, a very known Brazilian poet. Nowadays, Colegio Militar is still providing valuable human resources for the universities as well as for the Military Schools.

It is an Educational Establishment considered one of the top schools along the History of Brazil.
