Before the head shave

On Friday 12th May 2006, members of Shorinji Kempo Durham University Branch gathered in the Durham Student Union to hold a charity head shave.

After the head shave

The event was held in honour of our founder, Kaiso, in order to raise money for a UK charity, Help the Aged. Help the Aged is an international charity fighting to free disadvantaged older people from poverty, isolation and neglect. The theme of the event was 'lose your hair for the elderly' and many kenshi had their head shaved (some shorter than they initially thought!) The kenshi raised sponsorship money from friends and fellow kenshi. On the day itself, students in the Union kindly contributed and some brave passers by also donated money and had their head shaved.

We managed to raise a total of 573.02 pounds (about 120,000yen) for the charity and we are grateful to those who generously donated to make this possible.
