Spring 2003 Gasshuku
The 14th annual Alabama Shorinji Kempo Gasshuku was a huge success and a lot of fun for all. Twenty Kenshi from Alabama along with Andrew Sparks Sensei and Thaddeus Agar from the new Denver branch, and Michael and Akari Eastwood Sensei form the new Chicago branch attended on March 28th, 29th, and 30th. Sparks Sensei directed a series of techniques from San-Kyu up though Yon-Dan with the help of Rusty Loften Sensei(Alabama Branch Master) and Michael Eastwood Sensei(Chicago Branch Master.) This was a wonderful combined effort between the main Foley Alabama Branch and the Birmingham North Alabama Sub-branch lead by David Todd Sensei. We hope to keep the tradition alive that John Stump Sensei put into motion 14 years ago here in Alabama with an open invitation to all kenshi to visit and practice with us. Thanks again to Andrew Sparks Sensei for bringing in a new approach and teaching style as well as a great lessons in friendship between branches.
