The 1st Shorinji Kempo Taikai in the North of Rio Grande do Sul
I Taikai in the North Region of Rio Grande do Sul between Passo Fundo and Erechim:
At 1 o'clock PM of the same day, 27 kenshis of both branches met at a school called Menino Jesus, in Passo Fundo, in order to take part in the I Randori Taikai. The event began at 2 o'clock, with a reading of the message from the President of Shorinji Kempo Organization, Yuuki So, followed by a few words of sensei Clovis Souza, reminding the objectives and purposes of Shorinji Kempo.
There were relatives of the kenshis and ex-students, who got very excited, and the kenshis Eliane Souza and Karla, respectively Clovis Souza's and Izidoro Yamamoto's wives helped the organizers by controlling the punctuation of the combats.
The individual combats last until 5 o'clock, between the following categories: adolescents/adults, children and women, which won in the 1st and 2nd places the kenshis of Passo Fundo's branch and Erechim's branch, respectively.
Between the combats, demonstrations of the techniques were made by sensei Clovis Souza, with his students Henrique Tanabe and Felipe Leso, and also by the master Darlan da Rocha, with his student Cledilson Lipa.
Despite the very few people there, a reasonable amount of food was collected, and will be donated to charity. Also, the school's principal got very surprised and interested in Shorinji Kempo, and it will possibly become part of the institucional activities for its students next year.
No one had serious injuries and, in the end, everyone got satisfied with the event and its organization, which had a data-show equipment, and it has been already thought about organizing an event similar to this one for the following year, at Erechim or Porto Alegre, maybe with embu competition.
