Kagami Biraki joins 50 people in Olivais Branch/February 2009

For the third year Olivais Branch organized last February 7, its own Kagami Biraki ceremony, mostly symbolical in order to mark the New Year 2009 and joining in Dojo as much kenshi and family (and friends) as possible in.

Again we succeeded, as in the last events of this kind because we were very happy to have the presence of a total number of around 50 people, being 20 kenshi from 5 years old, and the others family and friends.

In the beginning we had a training session for Yudansha with the presence of some friends from other Branches including the higher instructor in Portugal, Fausto Carrico Sensei (5th Dan Daikenshi) and also Jose Araujo Sensei (5th Dan) which were very helpful to all of us.

After this we had a joint training between kenshi and family members, which was very funny as usual, specially when we have younger kenshi teaching and applying their techniques to their parents...

In this moments we can feel the true spirit of Shorinji Kempo and some of its main Characteristics, as the Kumite Shutai (Practice based on mutual cooperation) and the "great" (because its very profound) Riki Ai Funi (Proper way of acting, or Strength and Love in Harmony).

Next, and after the usual group photos, we had our relaxed moment with some music, food and drinks that all kenshi and their families brought (mostly home made, therefore with more value), which made me (remind and) present my sincere gratitude to all the support we've been receiving from all our kenshi's families, mostly from our children's class families, which have been showing great respect and interest for Shorinji Kempo and its unique characteristics, understanding that it is very useful in their children's education.

In the end of the practice we also did some Seiho, which was very pleasent to everyone, specially to the parents, who never tried it before.

To all our kenshi, their families and friends we wish a very happy and healthy year 2009, hoping that our art may aide us all support and surpass the actual difficult days we are all living around the globe.
