Farroupilha Branch's 2nd Female Self-Defense Workshop

Beginning Kaiso Day celebrations, Farroupilha Branch, based in Porto Alegre, Brazil, held its 2nd Female Self-Defense Workshop last 6th of April.

Several invited women attended to the event at the branch dojo. The participation fee was a small food donation, which is going to be channeled to a charity institution, as part of Kaiso Day celebrations, along with donations the branch kenshis themselves are going to make. Practice was conducted by Daiane Borges, 3rd Dan Chu Kenshi, under supervision of the branch master Evandro Schuster.

Daiane demonstrated and taught self-defense techniques, emphasizing special aspects that should be noticed by women, and how to respond to the most common attacks performed by male offenders. The main goal was to teach some simple and efficient techniques from the wide range of Shorinji Kempo moves to be used against stronger opponents.

This second edition of the workshop also had great support of the regular kenshis of the branch, which at times assisted by serving as attackers so that the attendants could practice what they just had learned.

According to the Branch Master, the event fulfilled its two main purposes: to divulge and qualify Shorinji Kempo practice, which is still not very popular in our country, and to teach useful self-defense techniques to women, common targets of violence.
