Personal Safety on Brazilian Streets
During the whole month of May, our branch has taken up several
activities to collect food and clothes to needing people, as well as
to propagate Shorinji Kempo, being sure that across the globe the
Kaiso Day has a strong meaning for all of us.
The 9th of May, after our free training, there was a lecture on safety
tips and robbery prevention to regular kenshis of our branch. The
Branch Master, Evandro Schuster, Police Inspector, conducted the
lecture, supported by Pedro Kenne, 2nd Dan and former Army military,
and Felipe Fachinello, 2 Kyu and Municipal Guard.
The lecture was divided in two parts: 1) General tips on safety,
prevention and action upon an armed robbery situation; and 2) Weapons
most commonly used in armed robberies in Brazil.
Unfortunately, our country is among the most violent ones in the
world. Therefore, personal safety knowledge is something vital to life
in brazilian cities. Many tips were given, but the most important one
was the following: "IF YOU SEE A FIREARM, DO NOT REACT!"
In these activities, we collected clothes and food, wich, along with
the result of the collections we had performed, were passed on to
Instituto Dias da Cruz, a Institution that provides shelter and meals
to homeless people.
