Summer Gasshuku in Visby.

Part of the ancient wall surrounding the central parts of Visby. |
This years annual summer study session in Visby, on the beautiful island of Gotland took place between the 17th and 20th of July. Visby is a medieval town surrounded by a thousand year old wall.
About 40 participants from all parts of Sweden practised six hours a day for four days, three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening. The time off was spent sightseeing in the old quarters, the harbour or on one of the nearby beaches.
Stefan Josson Levin, chukenshi 3rd dan, shibu-cho of Visby shibu, invited three Swedish instructors to do the teaching, Anders Pettersson, Seikenshi 5th dan, Leif Kekonius, Chukenshi 3rd dan and Alexander Tilly, Chukenshi 3rd dan. They chose to focus on different perspectives of Shorinjikempo. Anders hade a brief theoretic lecture about Tachiai Hyokaho (evaluation method for randori). He also held a session on how to make a strategy (Senjutsu Sosei) in order to apply Goho Hokei in Unyoho (randori). Leif taught basic techniques according to kamokuhyo, while Alex taught how to apply and vary techniques during stress. This mixture seemed to be appreciated by the participants.

Saturday evening we hade a big picnic in a beautiful park by the sea in the central of Visby. The study session was finished off with a one and a half hour of seiho, which we all needed at that time. Instructors on this session were Anders and Stefan.
We would really like to recommend a visit for any kenshi who wish to join us next summer. Information about coming events in Sweden are found on
www.shorinji-kempo.org.
