WESTMINSTER-CALIFORNIA SHORINJI KEMPO BRANCH PARTICIPATES IN THE LOS ANGELES REVLON CANCER CHARITY 5km WALK/RUN MARATHON
Westminster-California branch participated in the Los Angeles Revlon Run/Walk charity Breast Cancer 5km marathon on Saturday May 8, 2010. Ten (10) Shorinji Kempo students, their respective parents and friends woke up at 5am to arrive at the Los Angeles Coliseum to run in a Marathon. The temperature was a perfect 70degF (21C).
Lisa Umeda (2-Kyu) kenshi selected the Los Angeles Revlon Breast Cancer RUN/WALK 5km marathon to support our branches yearly charity event. The race started near University of Southern California and ended inside the Los Angeles Coliseum. Out of the 28,115 total participants, I am proud to say we all finished in the top 3,700. Mike Hagiwara kenshi finished first with a time of 26min 14sec, followed by Lisa Umeda and Nina Rastogi. The remaining Shorinji Kempo students, parents and friends trailed close behind knowing that each step we ran/walked raised money to help fight and potentially eliminate Breast Cancer. The true essence of Shorinji Kempo, living "half for one's own happiness and half for the happiness of others".
The below Shorinji Kempo students completed the 5km run which helped donate $513 to the Breast Cancer Foundation. They continue to lead by example which sets precedence in their leadership roles in and outside of the Shorinji Kempo.
Mike H., Lisa U., Nina R., Songvy N., Lisa R., Corbin C., Kimberly P., Yukiko F., Connor H.
The marathon ended with a great lunch at Chipotle Mexican restaurant where we started discussing about our next fun event, which is the upcoming Shorinji Kempo Car Wash !!!
