WESTMINSTER-CALIFORNIA SHORINJI KEMPO CHARITY CAR WASH

Westminster-California Shorinji Kempo Branch held their annual Charity Car Wash event on Saturday June 12, 2010. The theme is to promote "Half for one's own happiness and half for the happiness of others" by raising funds for UNICEF and RED CROSS organizations. The Charity Car Wash event started with 30 minutes of Shorinji Kempo basics (kihon) followed up with a 1 hr of technique review for each kenshi rank. The Shorinji Kempo practice ended with many of the students, friends and parents changing into their get-wet car wash clothes. The weather, a comfortable 75 degrees was just perfect for a car wash event.

The Shorinji Kempo car-wash teams split into three groups. One group was the critical marketing team for attracting dirty cars driving by our dojo. The remaining two teams washed and dried each car. All customers were offered an ice-cold bottle of water. There was no price set for the car-wash; only donations were accepted. Several of the adult students coached the children Kenshi on the best etiquette of washing cars. The best etiquette lasted only a short time, as everyone started having fun spraying soap and water on each other. The true essence of Shorinji Kempo; helping the community and having fun!!!!

The 4 hour practice and Charity Car-Wash event ended with a Pizza and drinks!!!!! A total of $690 was raised which will be shared equally between UNICEF and RED CROSS organizations. While it was great that we could hold a Charity Car-Wash event to raise money for the community, the best part is that Shorinji Kempo again brought all of us together to share in a common goal "Half for one's own happiness and half for the happiness of others".

Through the hard work and determination of many Westminster-California Shorinji Kempo students, parents and friends, the Shorinji Kempo Charity Car Wash event was a great success. A big thanks goes to the Nguyen, Wheeler, Pagano, Hendrickson, Ho, Cain and Naito families whose aunts, uncles, cousins, mothers, sisters and brothers showed up in many cars which made the event even more successful!!!!
