On July 31st, the members of Shorinji Kempo Vancouver Branch and BC Tozenji Branch gathered again at Oppenheimer Park for the 35th annual Powell Street Festival. Newly renovated with a new playground and activity house, the park was full of people enjoying the festivities and food.
Shorinji Kempo has had the honor of demonstrating at the festival year in and year out-this year marks the 29th time Shorinji Kempo has demonstrated at the festival!
We were blessed again this year with clear skies and large crowds. Weapons use in the opening embu made for a thrilling first impression. The children and family segments that followed were adorable and captured the crowdfs hearts. With ages ranging from 7 to 74, our diverse group showed the crowd that Shorinji Kempo can be for everyone. Everyone did their best at this annual chance to showcase our art.
Afterwards we celebrated with a BBQ party with volleyball, darts, and golf. The food was delicious and the company was fine. A good time was had by all. We resolved to train even harder to prepare for the next opportunity to show the crowds of Vancouver how we have grown.
Please join us at the dojo!
