Auckland Central Branch, New Zealand / Nov 2003
Contributor: Branch Master Steve Young |
Auckland Central Branch was founded in 1973 by students from Kyoto University of Foreign Studies. For the past 15 years the Branch has been coached by Peter Monk (6th Dan) and we currently have 4 Kenshi of San Dan rank. Over the years we have had many Japanese students who are studying in New Zealand train with us.

Every November Kenshi from Auckland Central Branch join with kenshi from other branches in Auckland to perform a demonstration of Shorinji Kempo at "Japan Day" which is an annual festival of Japanese Culture . The festival is attended by many thousands of people and our demonstration was enthusiastically received by the audience.
Attached are photos from our Easter Camp held earlier in the year , which is an annual 3 day outdoor training camp organised by our branch and held this year at Whangarei Heads beach just north of Auckland. Instead of training in a dojo kenshi undergo a rigorous fitness program and practice techniques on the beach and in fields.

Also attached is a photo of Kenshi with WSKO instructors Urata Sensei and Suzuki Sensei at the end of the recent 3 day Oceania Study Session .
