So Doshin (Founder of Shorinji Kempo) Day is a day to put the philosophy of "Half for one's own happiness, and half for the happiness of others" into practice through community service activities. It started in May 1995, commemorating the anniversary of the death of our founder Doshin So, who taught us to put good ideas into action. It expanded into an annual month-long "Kaiso Day Promotion Month". Shorinji Kempo branches choose one day in the month of May to contribute to the society. Through the volunteer activities on a Kaiso Day, each kenshi implement what he/she has learned in the dojo for the society, experiencing the joy of giving happiness to others. |
