Shorinji Kempo Summer Training Camp at Headquarters, Week A
Week A of the Shorinji Kempo Headquarters Summer Training Camp was held for 4 days from August 6 to 9, attended by 179 Japanese university students, and one from New Zealand. Nearly half of the participants were girls.
The schedule of the camp has been changed slightly. Participants used to gather at hondo for a morning assembly at 8:45, but this week the students joined hombu staff to do "samu" sweeping and wiping in and around each dojo, before they gathered at hondo for chinkon-gyo at 9:15. After all the program of the day is finished, they did "samu" again, learning its importance, feeling both tired and refreshed.
Also the participants had a series of short lectures about the intellectual properties for the first three days. They learned why and how we should protect our rights concerning Shorinji Kempo.
Mr. Takeyuki Morita from the Auckland Central Branch used to attend the hombu camps when he was a Japanese university student. Now he lives in Auckland, trying to obtain a permanent residential visa and open a new branch himself. He took the grading test for Seikenshi 4th Dan rank, and was presented the certificate at the closing ceremony.
