Japan Foundation Sponsorship Program
Shorinji Kempo Demonstration in Brazil
and Brazilian Regional Study Session

Supported by the Japan Foundation, the Shorinji Kempo Federation dispatched 3 instructors to Brazil and Chile from Japan in June 2007. The instructors dispatched are Mr. Yoshimi Akiyoshi, WSKO Instructor, Seihanshi 8th Dan, Mr. Masakazu Toyama, WSKO Instructor, Junhanshi 7th Dan, Mr. Yuki Tanaka, Shorinji Kempo Federation staff, Seikenshi 5th Dan.

Study Session in Porto Alegre

Brazilian Regional Study Session was held at PUC/RS Sports Complex, in Porto Alegre, Brazil, attended by around 130 local kenshi, for three days from June 8 to 10, 2007.

In the cool weather, the participants practiced hard with heavy sweat to fully absorb the advices by the instructors of high ranks for this chance. The participants were mainly divided into Dan holders and kyu kenshi. The instructors taught the importance of the basics, explaining the meaning of each technique, to improve the basic levels. Participants were taught the points of each technique and learned a small difference in the techniques makes a big difference in effects.

Eight kenshi attended the Branch Establishment Seminar to prepare for establishment of new branches. They will be the leaders of future Shorinji Kempo in Brazil.







Shorinji Kempo Demonstration in Porto Alegre

On June 10, 2007, the dispatched instructors from Japan, joined by the Brazilian branch members of Shorinji Kempo, gave a demonstration of rich contents at PUC/RS Sports Complex, in Porto Alegre. Japanese delegates showed their solo embu, various techniques, and paired embu. The audience were overwhelmed by the techniques they have never seen before, giving a large applause after each technique.



















Brazilian Shorinji Kempo members also showed their techniques in various forms including group embu and women's self defense techniques.
