February 24 - 27, 2010
Shorinji Kempo Spring Training Camp at Headquarters, Week A

Week A of the Shorinji Kempo Headquarters Spring Training Camp was held for 4 days from February 24th to 27th, 2009, attended by 400 Japanese university students, and four from Australia.

The four kenshi from the Gold Coast Branch of Australia are Mr. Craig Foley, Mr. Peter Wood, Mr. Cuong Tran, and Mr. Glenn Barry. Mr. Foley, Mr. Wood, and Mr. Tran have joined Hombu training before. They knew what to do, and they had brought things they needed on the last day.

Their cheerful and open personalities made communication with Japanese students easy throughout the camp week, motivating both of them to learn the others' language and culture as well.

Mr. Craig Foley and Mr. Peter Wood took the 3rd Dan grading test, and they received the certificates at the closing ceremony. Mr. Foley is now ready to start his own branch.

It is now a tradition that after the rather solemn closing ceremony, participants give free presentations. The Australian participants performed an embu along with an Australian traditional musical instrument, which draw cheers and applause from everywhere.

Australian members' embu performance with the music played with a "didgeridoo" (here performed by Mr. Glenn Barry), a traditional wind instrument developed by Indigenous Australians of northern Australia. A pleasant surprise for the Japanese students.
