2003 All-Japan Shorinji Kempo Taikai

2003 All-Japan Shorinji Kempo Taikai
2003 All-Japan Shorinji Kempo Taikai was held in Miyagi on November 2nd, 2003. This was the first time that an All-Japan Taikai was held in the Tohoku district (the northeastern region of Japan). The concept for this Taikai is "Coexistence - Joy of being together." The event site gymnasium Grande 21 was crowded by 5,000 people including participating Kenshi, their family and staff.

Taikai was held divided into two sections, Section One in the morning, and Section Two in the afternoon.

In the Section One in the morning, 16 categories in total (7 categories of the competition section and 9 categories of the presentation section) were conducted on 16 courts. The categories of the Presentation Section were; Primary School pairs, Junior High School pairs, Parent-Child pairs, Married Couples, Men 45 yrs and above, Women 30 yrs and above, Primary School Groups, Junior High School Groups, and Adult Groups. Please see below for the categories of the Competition Section.
2,160 kenshi representing each prefecture participated in the Embu judgment from 9:00 am. Those who participated in the categories of the Competition Section and marked high scores at this preliminary participated in the Final held in the Section Two in the afternoon.
The Section Two started with the Opening Ceremony at 13:00. After the opening announcement, Miyagi Prefecture Shorinji Kempo Federation President, who is also the Chairman of the Taikai, gave an address, followed by greetings from other guests, Chinkon-gyo, and the final embu performances. For attractions, Embu by Shorinji Kempo Federation Official Demo Team, Suzume Odori (or Sparrow Dance, one of the local Miyagi's traditional performing arts), Iai-do and Karate-do demonstrations were enjoyed by the audience.

All the embu evaluation was finished, and from 15:00, awards were given to the award winners of the Taikai . The results are below.
