ACTIVITIES
Once
someone joins a branch recognized by the World Shorinji Kempo Organization,
that person becomes a member of the World Shorinji Kempo Organization.
Shorinji Kempo is a single organization around the world. It passes
on the principles and techniques bequeathed to us by Kaiso, Doshin So,
and is an organization made up of people inspired by this inheritance
who are mutually committed to this movement to spread well-being. Any
WSKO branch anywhere in the world is oriented towards these same goals,
and is instructed in the same techniques based on the same standards,
and develops its activities based on the same fundamental principles.
Branches of the World Shorinji Kempo Organization are non-profit organizations,
so Shorinji Kempo leaders do not instruct Shorinji Kempo for the purpose
of profit. WSKO Instructors engage in Shorinji Kempo activities to pass
on and spread the technical and philosophical inheritance received from
Kaiso.
The main activities of the World Shorinji Kempo Organization Headquarters
include authorizing the establishment of federations and branches in
various countries, the quadrennial International Taikai and International
Study Session, and dispatching WSKO Instructors to study sessions held
in various locations around the world a number of times every year.
The most recent International Taikai was held in April 2001 in Paris,
France. The next International Taikai will be held in 2005 in Japan.
World Shorinji Kempo Organization international Taikai are a chance
for kenshi to present the fruits of their regular practice in their
dojo, and to compete with each other over the accuracy of their techniques.
They are not for establishing winners and losers. Also, at the taikai's
associated international study session, kenshi gather together from
around the world under the guidance of WSKO Instructors to receive instructions
on the techniques and hear lectures in Shorinji Kempo philosophy.
The various regional seminars are held in the regions with active federations
and branches: the Asian region, the European region, the Oceania region,
the North American region, the South American region, and the African
region. WSKO Instructors are sent to these regions to teach the techniques
and philosophy. To find out about this year's activities, please see
the WSKO Event Calendar.
